The Myth of Just Do It

Just do It real estate training

We’re winding down our time for ROAR! I appreciate you sticking with it for this long. Let’s talk about “Just do it!” It does work to get the overanalyzers to just stop thinking and start doing it. There is a time to put a plan into action but I think it’s the wrong thing to say when coaching and training.

The Myth of “Just Do It”

There’s a lot of high D personalities in real estate, especially in training and coaching. They will tell you, “just make calls to a neighborhood” or “just talk to all of your friends and ask them to buy or sell.”

The “just do it” mentality doesn’t teach crap except one way to do things. And 99% of the time those people are proclaiming “just do it” was because that was just normal for them.

Have you ever notice that Michael Jordan doesn’t coach? I don’t think someone that good has the patience to coach. I imagine sessions going like this, “Just jump, put the ball through your legs, behind your back, and dunk it! How hard is this?!?”

I also feel it’s lazy to say, “Just do this thing that was supernatural and easy for me to do.” And I see this all of the time with people saying this kind of stuff. But when you tell them, hey try this other thing, “No, I don’t like that. It doesn’t work for me.” Even though it works for others.

We are all different. We have different skills, talents and abilities. We, hopefully, got into this to move towards our perfect life. Why mess it up by doing something we hate? Now I’m not saying we don’t need to grow or expand and push ourselves to be better, but why should we have to do it just one way?

I’m giving you permission to ignore that person that says there’s just one way and just do it with the implied tone that you are an idiot. I’ve seen people make amazing careers doing things just a little differently. That’s my hope for you.

So pick your path, make a plan and just do it! And if you don’t like it, pick another path!

Exercise: If you skipped picking your path earlier, do it now. And then take everything you learned and make a plan.

Do the work, get the results.
